Proposed changes to medical, mental health diagnosis during Brown Co. jail

Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach was assimilated by Brown County Sheriff John Gossage and Brown County Human Services Director Erik Pritzl to outline his bill offer that changes medical and mental health diagnosis perceived by inmates during a Brown County Jail.

The roughly $250,000 offer is a partial of Streckenbach’s $225 million 2016 budget.

Under a proposal, inmates could accept 24/7 medical and mental health services.

Sheriff Gossage pronounced all other jails in Wisconsin of a same distance already have this. “This will move us into correspondence with a state what their wishes are,” pronounced Gossage.

Right now, a jail is but a purebred helper from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m.

“We’re going to have an additional 56 hours of additional RN coverage on night shift,” Gossage said.

The additional nursing staff will revoke a wait time for distributing medications.

“I’ve listened some complaints from family members of inmates who didn’t get their drugs in a timely manner, or so they thought, and a lot of that had to do with a wait time that it took for a prescriptions to be vetted by a nursing staff,” pronounced Gossage. “Really it’s a matter of volume, supply and demand, and perplexing to get that information, that product out.”

There are about 750 inmates in a Brown County Jail.

“We have about a third of those inmates influenced by mental health issues,” pronounced Gossage.

That’s because officials devise to supplement a relationship position to assistance inmates transition behind into society.
